Day three of the second Ashes Test ended with Australia scoring 130-2 in 45.2 overs before the game was interrupted by rain at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Friday.

Usman Khawaja (58) and Steve Smith (6) will resume batting for the Aussies on the fourth day with a 221-run lead.

Australia are firmly in control of the game as the rain forced an early stumps, the Aussies’ lead have already crossed the 220 mark.

However, Josh Tongue, an Ashes debutant who in the first inning caused all the problems for the Aussies as he removed three powerhouses in David Warner, Khawaja and Smith, once again removed Warner with an in-swinger in the second innings.

England resumed their batting on day three at 278-4 but were bundled out by the Australian bowling attack after just scoring 47 runs on 325.

On day two, Ben Duckett who led the English counterattack against the Aussies, came incredibly close to completing his hundred but was removed by Josh Hazlewood with just two runs away of his well-deserved century.

Earlier on day two, Australia were all out after posting 416 on the scoreboard thanks to Smith scoring his 32nd Test century before heading back to the pavilion and Travis Head’s quickfire 77 off 73.

With Khawaja and Smith all set on the pitch with four batters in Head, Cameroon Green, Alex Carey and Pat Cummins still to play, the Aussies might just be in to set a colossal total for the English team to chase in the second innings at the Home of Cricket.
